THE FIRST TIME I DANCED AT A POW WOW

The first time I danced at a Pow wow was in 1998. I wore a nice regalia with a native dress, a shawl, and moccasins. I came in as a fancy shawl dancer. As I danced I felt cold air from the bad spirits leaving the circle and the warming of the good spirits entering the circle. Dancers all around me now, the sound of the drum beat, which we believe is the sound of our ancestors' heart beat, and the sweet grass burning all around the Pow wow grounds. What a beautiful site of the Eagle flying over the circle greeting us dancers with good luck.

The best thing about dancing is when in come in the circle you may have bad thoughts about something and when you leave the circle you leave with good thoughts. To conclude my theme I would like to say I love my culture and I am proud to be a Mi'kmaq.
