Students from the Waycobah Mi'kmaw Grades primary to six took part in a project to help Kiju Maqamikew. The non-smoking campaign project was presented to Chief and Council. We asked that Rod's One Stop and the Community Hall be smoke-free.

Students drew pictures and wrote letters on how the second hand smoke affected them. Students also made two "Thank you for Not Smoking" posters and signed them. One was posted at the school and the other at the Band Office.

The Chief and Council were invited to the school where they were presented with the proposal. They were shown the pictures and letters to read them. The council was impressed. Then we had tea, juice and goodies. The work was also put on the community channel, in the newsletter and in the Band Office.

Enclosed is our letter to the band, pictures of our presentation, and the newsletter copy. We have received positive feedback from the community as a whole. We are waiting for their response. (Update: The Chief and Council have agreed to make the Community Hall smoke-free)
