Peace Garden Project

Pictou Landing First Nation School

All the students of our school were involved in the planting of a Peace Garden on school grounds. Students and staff came up with the idea to have a place where we can appreciate our Mother Earth and care for her in a peaceful setting. Our school is a member of the League of Peaceful Schools and this project is also a symbol of our commitment to becoming a peaceful school. We are sure if there was less fighting and war in the world there would be more time for people to think about our Mother Earth.

The garden that we planted is in the shape of a Medicine Wheel with an oak tree in the very centre. The four sacred colours are represented by tulips which will bloom in the spring. Each of us got to plant a tulip bulb and we all learned more about the importance of caring for our Mother Earth through the teachings of the Medicine Wheel.
