Paul Stride. From Conne River

Paul Stride is 75 years old and still living in Conne River. He still goes fishing and hunting. He spends time in his cabin. He and his wife still enjoy playing cards every night. Paul married Vida on November 19, 1954.

Paul was born on May 26, 1928 in Conne River, by midwife Harriett Joe. His parents were Rita and Abe Stride. He had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. He went to school for a small bit of time because school was not good back then.

Paul had to go out of Conne River for work. He had to walk from Conne River to Camp 4for work. When they did leave they had to go for months. They worked 10 hours a day for 9 dollars a day. Some mornings they had nothing to eat so they had to fish to get something to eat. He went in the woods to cut logs to make some money for living. He had to tow his logs to Morrisville to sell. He had to use an axe to cut all the his logs. He had to use rope to haul his logs out of the woods. He went in the woods with his brothers and his father all year around. He cut 600 logs on one log a trip.

When Paul got married to Vida she got sick so he had to take care of her and take her across the Bay to see a doctor. Back then there were no cars and trucks and no roads just foot paths. Paul and Vida had 10 kids which made it very hard to feed everybody but they tried there best.
