 September 2000 Contest Entry
Role Models

My role model is my grandmother.  If ever there was a person in this world who could prove to be more trustworthy, courageous or brave – that is my Grandmother.  Ever since I was a baby and I could remember, my grandmother has been there for me.  She has always influenced me by giving me strong positive advice about today’s everyday problems, like staying out of trouble, coming home early, going to school and how important school is and to always respect my Elders.

My Grandmother is always there for me and not just for me but my whole family and the whole community. She used to help out in the community gathering (salite’). She used to prepare the meal, but now she just helps out serving and cooking some stuff – not everything.  The community respects her for her strong will and heart to help others.  I could always count on her and so can you!  My role model, the one I admire is my grandmother Frances Battiste.  I love you and I put all my trust in you.
